SWAD SCHOOL ALUMNI

SWAD (SCHOOL WITH A DIFFERENCE)

DIR’s School With A Difference (SWAD) opened up in 2008 as a response to young children loitering around the basti. SWAD School prepares basti children of kindergarten age (3-5 years) to pass an annual exam that will qualify them to attend an English medium school in Chandigarh. The education program covers written and oral Hindi and English, mathematics, and creative activities. Our teaching staff is trained to incorporate creative and playful teaching methods to generate children’s interest in learning. The whole ground floor of DIR’s headquarters in Janta Colony is dedicated to the school, with four classrooms, a library, a smart classroom, and a play area. All books and toys are donated by various donors and partners. DIR pays for all student’s stationery, uniforms, and rewards.

Enrollment in SWAD climbed dramatically from 27 students in the first year to 94 students in 2020. During this period, 10 of our students have qualified for the English medium school, St. Stephens, one of the top Public Schools in Chandigarh. All SWAD children graduate to be bold, smart, skilled and confident to face any interview in the top schools of Chandigarh. Education here is not restricted to the body and mind but rooted in harnessing the eternal potential of the soul.

Education is very necessary for each and everyone in order to improve knowledge, way of living as well as social and economic status throughout the life. It helps a person to get knowledge and improve their confidence level throughout their life.

TUITION CLASSES

Tuition Classes are held daily from 3 PM to 5PM from Monday to Friday at DIR Headquarters. All Basti students up to sixth standard who are struggling with any subject in school, be it math, science, reading or writing are helped. The goal of our tuition classes is that the Basti students are in power   with Public school standards and children are capable of any kind of school work which builds up their self confidence and interest in Education. Individual attention is given to each student and during examination tuitions are held on weekends as well.

With education you build up awareness and growth to enhance the future society of the nation.

DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMME DISTANCE

The Second project under education program is “Distance Learning Programme”, in which our SWAD school teachers started Hindi online classes for Indian children who are living abroad. At present we have Six Students from California, Spain and Florida. The motive behind the program is when they come to India, they don’t feel left out as they are able to communicate and understand their mother tongue.

SWAD SCHOOL ALUMNI WHO QUALIFIED FOR ST. STEPHEN

Developing Indigenous Resources India (DIR- India) has also established a school under its mission program to educate the under-privileged. Known as SWAD school we cater to the education of the children between the ages of three to six, providing them admission in our kindergarten classes that ensure their all round development. The curriculum centres around the purpose of providing students a good base in the English language and guiding them through the process of entrance exams, that are required to procure admissions in the top English medium schools in Chandigarh. Having parents who are not very versatile in English, this language creates a huge barrier in the betterment of the child as securing a place in good schools comes with certain prerequisites for children. SWAD school, thus, undertakes that responsibility off the parents and provides a wholesome base for the students.

While we do have a strict course of study, at SWAD school we try to inculcate some good morals and hobbies among our students so that they grow to be students known for more other than their studies. Classes such as drawing, dancing, singing are among the greatest hits for the kids. We also have a small playground at our school’s residence wherein students are coaches in sports, taught yoga exercise and basketball as well. Our students also partake in activities such as gardening, teaching them about the importance of recycling and undertaking activities of sustainable development, they are taught to formulate good habits at a young age that would thus, build their lives, pushing them to reach greater heights.

In the past years, our students have graduated and become a part of one of the most prestigious schools in the city, St. Stephens School. Having excelled in their examinations, eight of our pupils have gone onto attend this school in Chandigarh. Our mission is, thus, to be able to similarly transform each one of students to be their best self and give to them the ability to face the world with confidence and their head held high.

COMPUTER CLASSES FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED

We live in a fast-moving world where almost everything must come instantly to us. In this computer era, we depend on the computer to help us complete tasks, and to solve problems. Computers are used in various fields like business, pharmacy, music, education, engineering, defense, transportation, and cooking as they help to ease certain tasks, provide information faster, and speed up the work. Wherever you go whether it is a mechanic’s shop or a fast food restaurant, some form of technology and computers are being used. It may be a computerized cash register or the machine that cleans out your engine but it is a computer and everyone needs basic computer skills to function in today’s job market.

Today we depend on computers for the smallest of job operations whether in a mechanics shop, a fast food restaurant or be it a multinational.

DIR INDIA started computer classes for underprivileged children, in which we teach the basics of Microsoft Office and Internet that, can ensure better job opportunities for them.
